"How do we change the world? Change the story." Charles Eisenstein
The Need for a New Economy
Living in our consumer based economy tends to force us into finding our financial security through selling our time and energy in ways that have little to do with what makes us flourish, find a sense of purpose and authentic contribution.
We're living in a system that is predicated on debt and endless economic growth which means an infinite consumption of the planet's finite resources. We need new ways of exchanging value that enable humanity to thrive in sustainable ways rather than struggling to survive.
Whilst I can't personally change that system on my own I can investigate how to do things differently so as not to support its continuation.
I've been inspired by the work of Charles Eisenstein. He suggests that the crises we face are a result of holding a narrative of separation rather than seeing our interconnectedness, in this short film (20 mins):
Gift Economy
“The gift economy represents a shift from consumption to contribution, transaction to trust, scarcity to abundance, and isolation to community.” Charles Eisenstein.
Whilst aspects of the work I do are still done via conventional transactions, I've been offering my coaching sessions and the workshops I run in the spirit of the gift economy by allowing people to pay what they feel is right.
Supporting each other becomes the priority rather than focussing on a transactional process that induces scarcity thinking. Creating authentic community is important to me and this way of sharing my gifts enables stronger ties between us.
